3。5 solid starsThis was a pretty good read for me。 However, it did drag in some parts; a lot of perspective from the varying characters and sometimes it wasn't necessary to the overall story。 That being said, it did make me tear up in some parts and I grew to love all of the characters! 3。5 solid starsThis was a pretty good read for me。 However, it did drag in some parts; a lot of perspective from the varying characters and sometimes it wasn't necessary to the overall story。 That being said, it did make me tear up in some parts and I grew to love all of the characters! 。。。more

My favorite Roberts - memorable characters, both the young ones and the mature ones。 Each character has a lesson to teach the reader, including many of the secondary characters。 The inspired performance of the retired fence for old man’s sake was very entertaining! While Luke the lover is well done, as well as Luke the performer, Luke the avenger, etc, it is Luke the son that is the most interesting part。

This is a completely different Nora Roberts: less Montana Sky, more of those stories-spanning-decades Roberts sometimes does。。。 In this case I think she hobbles herself because the book is so unbalanced: it’s so much more about the past and so little about the present, and what’s present is so simple and straightforward。 But the setting is compelling nonetheless, and the characters so interesting, that even the half-baked present can’t quite sink this book。

Απο τα αγαπημένα μου ως φοιτήτρια το 1997。 Μέχρι και σήμερα η ιστορία της Ροξαν και του Λιουκ είναι ακόμα στο μυαλό μου。

*2。5This was my first Nora Roberts book and to be honest, I didn’t ever think I’d have a first。Is it ageism to say it definitely read like it was written by a grandmother? After fifty pages you get used to it, but that’s definitely a writing style。So shocker, I was actually super invested during the first act of this book。 I loved the storyline, loved where I could see our characters going, and loved seeing our character relationships build with each other。 I was HOOKED。 But then I was quickly r *2。5This was my first Nora Roberts book and to be honest, I didn’t ever think I’d have a first。Is it ageism to say it definitely read like it was written by a grandmother? The plot itself slowed down, got boring, and the last act just completely caused me to roll my eyes。 But hey, I pushed through。 Yay me。 。。。more

Read this close to 20 years ago。 Roberts can spin a good story。

Carnival, thievery, abandonment, blackmail, revenge, and love - all in the right doses。

An oldie, but definitely a goodie。

Early Roberts。 So much potential for a great second chance romance, but alas, it just didn't make an omelet。 I mean, there was definitely eggs broken, scrambled, plenty of sharp cheese and quite a few mushrooms with bacon thrown in for taste but。。。。。it lacked salt and pepper。 Early Roberts。 So much potential for a great second chance romance, but alas, it just didn't make an omelet。 I mean, there was definitely eggs broken, scrambled, plenty of sharp cheese and quite a few mushrooms with bacon thrown in for taste but。。。。。it lacked salt and pepper。 。。。more

The beginning of this story was super engaging and there was some really good character development here。 I thought the first half of the book was better than the second half but I loved the magic aspect and the sense of family the author built from all these people who weren't blood related。I think the overall book could've been shorter, and the ending was a bit too dramatic and far-fetched to be believable。 The dialogue got a little hard to read towards the end, but the writing is sophisticate The beginning of this story was super engaging and there was some really good character development here。 I thought the first half of the book was better than the second half but I loved the magic aspect and the sense of family the author built from all these people who weren't blood related。I think the overall book could've been shorter, and the ending was a bit too dramatic and far-fetched to be believable。 The dialogue got a little hard to read towards the end, but the writing is sophisticated and really well-informed。 Max was my favorite character and probably the most touching and realistic part of the story。 。。。more

Not one of my favorites, as one reviewer pointed out, it’s more a time progression then current。 Good writing just not a style I’m fond of。

5 "Not believing is what makes magic magic。" StarsI loved this。 Roxanne, Luke and the entire troupe were engaging, honest, and kept me rapt to the story telling of Nora Roberts。 It was a perfectly magical story。 I had no expectations on this book, found an old copy and the blurb was so appealing。 I'm so glad I read it。 5 "Not believing is what makes magic magic。" StarsI loved this。 Roxanne, Luke and the entire troupe were engaging, honest, and kept me rapt to the story telling of Nora Roberts。 It was a perfectly magical story。 I had no expectations on this book, found an old copy and the blurb was so appealing。 I'm so glad I read it。 。。。more

Wow。 I don’t think I’ve felt so much for a character until this novel。 Luke Callahan is my favorite hero in any of Nora’s novels。Nora Roberts is an amazingly talented writer to begin with, but Honest Illusions tops the list in my opinion。 Roxanne and Luke are incredible, together and on their own。 I loved following their journey from their childhood until the end。 And Max and Lily were everything together! So endearing and so sweet。 Nora Roberts made me cry my heart out with this book。 It’s a wo Wow。 I don’t think I’ve felt so much for a character until this novel。 Luke Callahan is my favorite hero in any of Nora’s novels。Nora Roberts is an amazingly talented writer to begin with, but Honest Illusions tops the list in my opinion。 Roxanne and Luke are incredible, together and on their own。 I loved following their journey from their childhood until the end。 And Max and Lily were everything together! I decided to re-read this because I remember distinctly the first time I read it--in hardback。 It was, if memory serves, the first book of hers published in hardback, and indicated that she was going to start writing, in addition to category romances, women's fiction or whatever they call a more traditional novel with a romantic story, as opposed to a genre romance。Honest Illusions is kind of a play on what Roberts does with this book, because it's a magical blending of the two。 I couldn't belie I decided to re-read this because I remember distinctly the first time I read it--in hardback。 It was, if memory serves, the first book of hers published in hardback, and indicated that she was going to start writing, in addition to category romances, women's fiction or whatever they call a more traditional novel with a romantic story, as opposed to a genre romance。Honest Illusions is kind of a play on what Roberts does with this book, because it's a magical blending of the two。 I couldn't believe how good it was, and how two elements seemed so personally delightful: allusions to Born to Run and Bruce Springsteen and a tarot reading! I haven't re-read the book in a long time, though I read it several times right around the time that it first came out。 My mother didn't have Alzheimer's then, so a major character's decline didn't seem personal。 This time it was such a vivid description of the disease that it wasn't delightful, but no less a personal connection than Bruce and Tarot, and no less a reminder that Roberts is brilliant at what she conveys。For a while, reading this was a different kind of magic。 It allowed me to go back in time, remembering where and when I read it, and how easy life was in comparison to how it has been and is now。 My mother's gone, and my health is unstable。 The biggest illusion of all is that time doesn't move at the speed of light, and our good years go by in the blink of an eye, to quote Bruce。 Makes you look like a fool, boy。But the things Nora Roberts evokes are honest joys and things that last。 Love。 Honor。 Dedication to one's work。 And that is why I read every book she writes, even though characters and plot points are often repetitive。 You write a zillion books, you're gonna be a bit repetitive。 What a legacy Nora Roberts has created。 That's honest, and no illusion。This book holds up very well。 A jewel in her many-crystalled crown。 。。。more

3。5 starsThis was one of the few Nora Roberts books I had not read。 I tracked it down in my library system, and I liked the idea of the story。 I wish there was a little more of them after the five years passed。

Nora Roberts is a bestselling author for a reason。 She writes great stories。 This one centres on Roxanne and Luke who are stage magicians。 A romance with more。 Great for the beach, curling up by the fire, or chilling by the pool。

DNF at 60%。The story felt too dragged out despite all the "supposedly" fascinating and beautiful characters。 DNF at 60%。The story felt too dragged out despite all the "supposedly" fascinating and beautiful characters。 。。。more

The best Nora Roberts book。 And I will die on that hill。It made me have a huge thing for magicians, which hasn't aged well, but I don't care。I need Luke Callahan in my life。 Like yesterday。 The best Nora Roberts book。 And I will die on that hill。It made me have a huge thing for magicians, which hasn't aged well, but I don't care。I need Luke Callahan in my life。 Like yesterday。 。。。more

This book was quite the emotional roller coaster! I laughed and cried, I got mad a few times, and I loved these characters。 I did think a few parts went sort of slow, but overall, I really loved this book。

Having a tough time with this one, had to put it down and go pick another one from my TBR stack。 Will update when I return to it or decide its a DNF。 - Okay, I finally finished this but have to admitt it was hard to stay with it。 Put it down several times and finished two other books before I finished this one。 Not one I will be re-reading ever again。

I reread this recently after I did a decent amount of googling to find the book I was remembering。 I remember reading this while listening to Adam Lambert in high school and now the two go hand in hand。
